KU Defeats K-State 30-24!
After an amazing weekend of college football, I am excited to report that the Hawks have won in Manhattan for the first time since 1989. We took most of our squad and we were fortunate enough to get to cheer during an incredible rivalry game. The environment was very hostile, but it only makes victory that much sweeter. I only cheered the first half, which let me tell you, was not the half that I expected. A couple of turnovers and a late second quarter drive tied us with the Wildcats 14-14 at halftime. The crowd was getting crazier and crazier, and it looked like we might have trouble pulling one out on the road. The second half, however, was a much different football game. We were able to sustain offense with the running game, and two late interceptions, one by my favorite player #3 Aqib Talib, sealed the victory. We had beaten K-State in their home town!!!
The game was one of the most exciting football games I have ever cheered for KU and it is a great way to continue my senior year. Both groups of cheerleaders did an amazing job in front of a lot of unfriendly faces and helped support the team in one of our biggest road victories under Coach Mangino. Props to the six standing fulls we threw in their end zone! I have to say that I thought it was a little early, but nothing is better than yelling the Rock Chalk chant with a minute to go and watching all of those K-State fans leave early. We have now beaten K-State in football three of the four years I have been in college. I love being a Jayhawk!
