Weekend Break!

Hey all, Audrey here! Well for the first time in a long time we have a weekend off of cheer. I know everyone is definitely taking advantage of this break and relaxing! It has also come at a much needed time before we get REALLY busy with everything coming up. Last practice we learned the rest of our late night routine that we perform with the Rock Chalk Dancers at Late Night in the Phog in two weeks. Nami worked really hard to get it all put together for us and I cannot wait to see it all perfected! It incorporates so many cool elements that we learned from our UCA Camp this past summer, and it's going to look awesome when we hit it at Late Night! Next weekend we travel to K-State for the football game and it's going to be a lot of fun, especially since it's a big rivalry game and our team is looking good this year! Also, a few of us went & helped at the Jayhawk Pink Classic softball tournament this afternoon, which raised money for breast cancer research and benefited the Susan G. Komen Foundation. We walked around with Big Jay and Baby Jay to support the team, and also helped pass out pink ribbons to the fans. It was fun to be able to help support such a great cause! Well I guess that's all for now...until next time! *Audrey

Preparing For Late Night

Hello all, Scotty here once again to keep ya updated on what is going on in the world of KU Cheerleading. Now that its moving into late September, we have to prepare our routines for the Late Night in the Phog performance we do every October to kickoff the Men's and Women's Basketball seasons with a bang. This week we started on our first routine with working out our pyramid, basket, tumbling, and stunt sequences. Since all 30 of us will be on the mat at once, we have to work very hard at each of our practices to work on being clean and sharp in everything we do, all in order to keep from looking like chickens running around with our heads cut off. These next few weeks will be tough but fun all because in the end our performances will be great and there truely isnt anything that is like performing in Allen Fieldhouse in front of the sell out crowd.

Picture was taken at our Latenight performance 2 seasons ago when we performed with our Dance Team in Allen Fieldhouse during my first year on the squad. Being out there was like nothing I had ever done before. Amazing!
-Til next time! Rock Chalk!!

Workouts

Hey guys, Adam here. We just started our workouts about a week ago, and my body is feeling it. Last year was the first year that we were allowed to work in the Athletic work out facility. The facility contains very nice equipment, and in order to make sure we are using it correctly we have our own strengthening coach (who pushes us very hard). This year the work outs are great, and really emphasize the muscle groups we work on during cheer. These work outs are one of the first steps into us getting the benefits all the other athletic teams get.

First Game

Hey everyone, Stan here. We just had our first football game of the season against Central Michigan. We won the game 52-7! Which was great! Also, it was great to finally be out there on the field with thousands of fans fired up the whole time. Having never cheered at any football game (especially a college game) I wasnt sure what to expect yet. But i was very excited when I got out there, it was a really great experience. I never realized how much we have an effect on a game and how important tradition here at KU is. I learned it was our job to start chants/cheers and to get the crowd loud. I had a lot fun down on the field, and got an on the field view of every play. I'm also glad that we won, that was definitely a bonus! And I cant wait until next week when we play again!
